Full-time Positions

1. Zhejiang University Distinguished Professor of Humanities and Social Science

Responsibilities:

(1) He /She who holds this position should consolidate and enhance the development level of basic disciplines.

(2) He /She who holds this position should initiate and guide the construction of burgeoning and cross disciplines.

(3) He /She who holds this position should organize and lead a research team for major decisions, constructing the first-class “think-tank”.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should make innovative achievements and remarkable contributions in research, have a high academic reputation at home and abroad.

(2) The applicant should be holding or once having held an important academic position in domestic or overseas top academic organizations or institutions.

(3) The applicant should have rigorous academic attitude and good morality.

(4) The applicant should launch the academic activities in good health.

(5) The applicant should work full-time at Zhejiang University (ZJU).

Remuneration:

(1) ZJU will provide a good living condition besides at least RMB 800,000 per year as remuneration and social insurance.

(2) Research conditions will differ from person to person according to the features and needs of different disciplines.

 

2. The Recruitment Program of Global Experts (Also known as the “One-Thousand-Talents Program”) (Long-Term Innovative Talent)

Responsibilities:

He /She who holds this position should guide the disciplinary development in his/her field. He /She should enhance his/her discipline in ZJU and build the team for further development. He /She should improve the quality of both teaching and research; facilitate international academic communication and research cooperation. He /She should make remarkable achievements in innovative research and increase the international influence of his/her discipline to speed up the development of ZJU into a world first-class university.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should generally hold a doctoral degree granted overseas and should hold full professorship (or an equivalent title) in a prestigious foreign higher education or research institution, or a world-renowned enterprise or financial institution.

(2) The applicant should have been engaged in research work in the fields of natural sciences, engineering technologies, economics, finance, management, and areas of humanities or social science in great demand (including 7 research areas: intellectual property law, environmental law, international law, international economic law, international relations, diplomacy and psychology) with extraordinary research capabilities. He /She should have published influential academic papers on core journals in the past 5 years, or have won notable international prizes in sciences or have mastered significant experimental skills or key technologies in scientific projects.

(3) The applicant should register at ZJU within 6 months after the application approved. The applicant is expected to work in ZJU for at least 9 months annually after recruitment for no less than 3 consecutive years.

(4) The applicant should, in principle, be 55 years of age or under (60 years of age or under for applicants in areas of humanities or social science in great demand).

Remuneration:

(1) ZJU will provide decent compensation. The exact amount differs from person to person according to agreement.

(2) Those qualified may apply for purchasing one of the apartments specifically reserved by ZJU for top-tier talents. Others may be entitled to a sum of money for housing subsidy.

(3) Research funds will be allocated by ZJU. Research assistants whose pay comes from the research funds may be employed if necessary.

(4) After the application approved, a one-time grant of RMB 1,000,000 (tax free) will be provided by the central government and another RMB 1,000,000 (tax free) as one-time award will be provided by the government of Zhejiang Province.


3. Long-term Recruitment Program of Foreign Experts

Responsibilities:

He /She who holds this position should guide the disciplinary development in his/her field, enhance his/her discipline in ZJU and build the team for its development. HeShe should improve the quality of both teaching and research; facilitate international academic communication and research cooperation. He /She should make remarkable achievements in innovative research and increase the international influence of his/her discipline to speed up the development of ZJU into a world first-class university.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should be non-Chinese expert. He /She should hold a doctoral degree granted overseas and should hold full professorship (or an equivalent title) in a prestigious foreign higher education or research institution, or a world-renowned enterprise or financial institution.   

(2) The applicant should have been engaged in research work in natural sciences, engineering technologies, economics, finance, management or other fields with extraordinary research capabilities. He /She should have published influential academic papers on core journals in the last 5 years, or have won notable international prizes in sciences or have mastered significant experimental skills or key technologies in scientific projects.

(3) The applicant should register at ZJU within 6 months after the application approved. He /She is expected to work in ZJU for at least 9 months annually for three consecutive years at least after recruitment. He /She should, in principle, be 65 years of age or under.

Remuneration:

(1) ZJU will provide decent compensation. The exact amount differs from person to person according to agreement.

(2) A sum of money for housing subsidy may be entitled.

(3) Research funds will be allocated by ZJU. Research assistants whose pay comes from the research funds may be employed if necessary. The central government will provide RMB 3,000,000 to 5,000,000 as the research start-up fund.

(4) After the application approved, a one-time grant of RMB 1,000,000 (tax free) will be provided by the central government and another RMB 1,000,000 (tax free) as one-time award will be provided by the government of Zhejiang Province.

  

4. “Cheung Kong Scholar” Special-Term Professor

Responsibilities:

(1) He /She who holds this position should lecture core courses in his/her discipline and supervise young faculties and graduate students.

(2) He /She who holds this position should keep pace with disciplinary development. He /She should put forward strategic, visionary, creative measures for development and lead related discipline in ZJU to remain or catch up with international advanced level.

(3) He /She who holds this position should follow the demands of development in cutting-edge sciences and technologies in the world and the demands of important national strategies. He /She should apply for and take charge of national key scientific research projects, conduct original researches and researches on crucial generic technologies. He /She should aim at making breakthroughs and remarkable achievements.

(4) He /She who holds this position should help recruit academic talents to build teaching and research teams for his/her discipline with the high-level faculties in ZJU. He /She should guide young faculties and train members in his/her team. He /She should facilitate international academic communication and research cooperation.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should, in principle, hold a doctoral degree. He /She should hold associate professorship or above (or an equivalent title) in a prominent overseas university or full professorship in a domestic university (or an equivalent title).

(2) The applicant should work full-time at ZJU for 5 years after recruitment. Applicants in the field of natural sciences should be 45 years of age or under while applicants in the field of humanities or social science should be 55 years of age or under.

Remuneration:

(1) ZJU will provide decent compensation.

(2) Those qualified may apply for purchasing one of the apartments specifically reserved by ZJU for top-tier talents. Others may be entitled to a sum of money for housing subsidy.

5. “Cheung Kong Scholar” Young Scholar Program

 

Responsibilities:

Since 2015, the "Cheung Kong Scholar Reward Program" Young Scholar Program has been launched to support colleges and universities focusing on recruiting and cultivating outstanding young top scholars with prominent figure in research, high innovative capabilities, strong development potential and abidance by academic and professional ethics at home and abroad. This program aims at providing a good working environment for outstanding young scholars to “work vigorously, enjoy research and do in-depth research” and then cultivating them to be excellent academic leaders with comprehensive competences. The Young Scholar Program applies the post appointment system among universities in China and selects around 200 scholars annually.

 

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant in the field of natural sciences, engineering technologies should be 38 years of age or under while applicants in the field of humanities or social science should be 45 years of age or under.

(2) The applicant should, in principle, hold a doctoral degree and work in the front line of teaching and research. As for domestic applicants, He /She should hold associate professorship (or an equivalent title) or above in a university.

(3) The applicant is a top-tier talent among peer researchers and has the potential to be a future leader in related areas.

(4) The applicant should work full-time at ZJU once recruited. Selected candidates of the “One-Thousand-Young-Talents Program” are excluded.

 

Remuneration:

(1) ZJU will offer decent compensation and the position of ZJU100 Young Professor, qualified to supervise doctoral students.

(2) Those qualified may apply for purchasing one of the apartments for talents of ZJU.

(3) The central government will provide RMB 100,000 per year as a grant, support for a period of three years.

6. The Recruitment Program of Global Young Experts (Also known as the “One-Thousand-Young-Talents Program”)

Responsibilities:

(1) He /She who holds this position should participate in discipline planning and developing. He /She should assist the leadership of his/her discipline to attain academic achievements of great significance in a certain research area of his/her discipline.

(2) He /She who holds this position should follow the demands of development in cutting-edge sciences and technologies in the world and important national strategies. He /She should conduct original researches on significant theoretical and practical issues, and tackle problems in key research areas. He /She should apply for and take charge of national key scientific research projects and aim at making breakthroughs and remarkable achievements.

(3) He /She who holds this position should lecture core courses in his/her discipline and supervise graduate students.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should have been engaged in research work in natural sciences or engineering technologies. He /She should hold a doctoral degree granted by a well-known overseas university and have been engaged in research work in an overseas higher education or research institution for no less than 3 years. Or He /She should hold a doctoral degree granted by a well-known domestic university and have been engaged in research work in an overseas higher education or research institution for no less than 3 years.

(2) The applicant should hold a formal teaching or research position at a prestigious overseas higher education or research institution or a world-renowned enterprise.

(3) The applicant is a top talent among peer researchers and has the potential to be a future leader in his/her area.

(4) The applicant should be 40 years of age or under. Once recruited, He /She should work full-time at ZJU.

Note: Exception may be made for applicants who have acquired important achievements in research or other fields when studying for a doctoral degree.

(1) ZJU will offer decent compensation and the position of ZJU100 Young Professor, qualified to supervise doctoral students.

7. Zhejiang Provincial Program for High-Level Overseas Talents (Long-Term Innovative Talent, Foreign Experts Recruitment Program included)

Responsibilities:

(1) He /She who holds this position should keep pace with disciplinary development trends in the world. He /She should put forward strategic, visionary, creative measures for research development, apply for and take charge of national key scientific research projects and aim at making breakthroughs and remarkable achievements to lead related discipline in ZJU to become and remain advanced at home and abroad.

(2) He /She who holds this position should follow the demands of important national and provincial strategies. He /She should break through key techniques, develop high-tech industry and bring along the emerging discipline according to the demand of key techniques tackling, make remarkable scientific research achievements with independent intellectual property rights and development potentials for industrialization.

(3) He /She who holds this position should lecture core courses in his/her discipline and supervise graduate students.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should hold a doctoral degree granted overseas and hold full associate professorship or above (or an equivalent title) in a prominent foreign higher education or research institution, or a world-renowned enterprise or institution. A technician or manager in a senior leadership position in a world-renowned enterprise or institution is also eligible.

(2) The applicant should either demonstrate outstanding capabilities in scientific innovation with research capabilities and achievements recognized by peers as at leading level, or demonstrate strong abilities in culture management or intercultural communication with abundant achievements, and principally have participated in major business operation or international cultural exchanges; or familiar with international rules of economic operation and intellectual property protection, and also should have abundant practical economic management experiences, as well as the high professional quality in financial analysis, product development, risk management, IT, international business, investment banking, asset management, financial derivatives investment with good performance and great impact.

(3) The applicant should work full-time in ZJU, in principle, be 55 years of age or under ( for Foreign Experts Recruitment Programthe applicant should be non-Chinese expert and be 65 years of age or under).

Remuneration:

(1) ZJU will provide decent compensation.

(2) Those qualified may apply for purchasing one of the apartments for talents. Others may be entitled to a sum of money for housing subsidy.

(3) After the application approved, a research start-up fund will be provided according to the difference of disciplines. Another one-time award of RMB 1,000,000 (tax free) will be provided by the government of Zhejiang Province.

 

8. Zhejiang University “Qiushi” Distinguished Scholar

Responsibilities:

(1) “Qiushi” Distinguished Professor

The “Qiushi” Distinguished Professor should keep pace with disciplinary development trends in the world. He /She should follow the demands of development in cutting-edge sciences and technologies in the world and the demands of important national strategies. He /She should conduct original researches on significant theoretical and practical issues, and tackle problems in key research areas. He /She should invite academic talents to build teaching and research teams with high-level faculties in ZJU. He /She should guide young faculties and train members of different levels in his/her teams. He /She should apply for and take charge of national key scientific research projects and  aim at making breakthroughs and remarkable achievements.

(2) “Qiushi” Distinguished Professor for Teaching

The “Qiushi” Distinguished Professor for Teaching should keep pace with disciplinary development trends. He /She should lead the building of high-quality courses, including exquisite courses and honor courses for undergraduates and core demonstration courses for graduates. He /She should take charge of education and teaching reforms and teaching development projects. He /She should build teaching teams and train leading faculties. He should head the teaching faculty for general courses, honor courses and exquisite courses and make achievements of great significance to increase the international influence of ZJU.

(3) “Qiushi” Distinguished Scholar for Experiments

The “Qiushi” Distinguished Scholar for Experiments should organize and lead important experiments and technical work. He /She should organize basic and prospective experimental researches, promote the reform and development of the teaching system for experiments and initiate effective combination of experimental and theoretical teaching. He /She should engage in the research and development of large instruments or facilities and apply the results to the upgrading of teaching and research. He /She should apply for and take charge of national key research projects for experiments or instrument technologies. He /She should organize and lead his/her team to provide high-quality technical support for related disciplines in ZJU, for the application of important research projects and for provincial and ministerial level public platforms.

(4) “Qiushi” Distinguished Clinician

The “Qiushi” Distinguished Clinician should work in practical and clinical research, focus on improving the innovative ability and promoting the noble medical ethics. He /She should follow with the demands and cutting edge of clinical specialty, to form a stable clinical-practice-related research area. He /She should have a high popularity and influence among the peer experts in diagnosis and treatment technology as well as in research domestically. He /She should lead and promote the development of clinical team and form the national competitive power.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should hold a doctoral degree, work in the corresponding position of research or medicine, and hold assistant professorship or above (or an equivalent title) in a prominent overseas university or full professorship (or an equivalent title) in a domestic university (“Qiushi” Distinguished Clinician requires both professor and chief physician in principle).

(2) The applicant should have a quite strong influence among the peer experts. He /She should be a great team-player with outstanding organization and management capabilities. He /She should be the elitist with outstanding academic level or abundant teaching experiences or achievements of experimental teaching reform and instrument development or experiences of clinical treatment and research.

(3) The applicant should work full-time at ZJU and be 55 years of age or under.

9. Zhejiang University Leading Professor of Humanities and Social Science

Responsibilities:

(1) He /She who holds this position should undertake a high-quality task of teaching for undergraduate or postgraduate, and cultivate innovative talents of high-quality.

(2) He /She who holds this position should introduce and cultivate discipline echelon members, facilitate international academic communication and research cooperation, and increase the international influence of related discipline.

(3) He /She who holds this position should establish the high-level platform of discipline, enhance the ability of solution in politics, economy, culture and society. He /She should try to make the research achievements with significant impact.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should hold a doctoral degree, abide by the academic ethic and work full-time at ZJU in good health.

(2) The applicant should hold the position of professor in a domestic “985”college or university, or hold the position of associate professor or above (or an equivalent position), in a well-known overseas university.

(3) The applicant should make innovative achievements and make remarkable contributions in research, have a high academic reputation home and abroad.

(1) ZJU will provide decent compensation.

10. Zhejiang University “Hundred Talents Program”

Responsibilities:

(1) He /She who holds this position should undertake a high-quality task of teaching. There can be a reduction of teaching task in the first 3 years.

(2) He /She who holds this position should be engaged in a high-level research, try to initiate a new orientation of discipline development, set up the original theoretical and practical researches or key technologies, enhance his/her own international academic influence and to become an internationally active academic member.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should hold a doctoral degree of world-renowned university. He /She should hold assistant professorship or associate professorship (or an equivalent title) in a prominent international university.

(2) The applicant should keep good professional ethics, rigorous learning spirit, prominent academic potential and good at cooperation. He /She should have the ability to establish and develop a research orientation independently.

(3) The applicant should work full-time at ZJU and be about 35 years of age.

Remuneration:

(1) ZJU will provide decent compensation.

(2) ZJU will provide the position of ZJU100 Young Professor, qualified to supervise doctoral students.

(3) Those qualified may apply for purchasing one of the apartments for talents.

 11. Zhejiang University “Hundred Talents Program” (Humanities and Social Science)

Responsibilities:

(1) He /She who holds this position should undertake a high-quality task of teaching.

(2) Zhejiang University "Hundred Talents Program"(Humanities and Social Science) includes "Type A" and "Type B".

Type A: The applicant should be engaged in a high-level research, participate in the formulation and execution of discipline development, facilitate international academic communication and research cooperation, increase the international influence, gradually form the advanced academic orientation of discipline, and enhance competitiveness of discipline.

Type B: The applicant should be engaged in a high-level research and establish a research orientation, facilitate international academic communication and research cooperation and become an active and influential scholar in the field.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) Type A: The applicant should hold associate professorship or assistant professorship in a prominent international university, and have a certain influence in domestic and international academia with active thoughts and rigorous learning spirit. He /She should have the ability to make certain influential achievements in some fields.

(2) Type B: The applicant should be the outstanding young scholar with good academic training. Principally, He /She should hold a doctoral degree or accomplish post doctor research of renowned university or renowned discipline. He /She should have certain innovative research achievements with active thoughts and rigorous learning spirit as well as a great developing potential.

(3) The applicant should work full-time at ZJU with rigorous learning spirit, fine morality, and in good health.

(1) ZJU will provide decent compensation.

12. Zhejiang University General Faculty Positions

(Professor, Associate Professor, Lecturer, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow)

12.1 Professor

Responsibilities:

(1) He/ She who holds this position should undertake a high-quality task of teaching,  lecture core courses in his/her discipline, supervise graduate students, and propose suggestions to the reform and planning of curriculum structures and content.

(2) He/ She who holds this position should engage in high-level research, put forward strategic, visionary, creative measures for research and discipline development and lead the research orientation and projects according to the development trend of target discipline.

(3) He/ She who holds this position should build a working team of the discipline and help recruit and cultivate outstanding young faculty.

(4) He/ She who holds this position should apply for and take charge of national key scientific research projects, improve the discipline to become national advanced and with impacts worldwide .

(5) He/ She who holds this position should make breakthroughs and remarkable academic achievements.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should hold a doctoral degree. Applicants from overseas should hold an associate professorship or above (or an equivalent title) in a prestigious foreign universities or research institution. Domestic applicants should hold a professorship (or an equivalent title) in domestic universities or research institution or have outstanding capabilities and remarkable achievements, and has great impacts of target discipline at home and abroad.

(2)The applicant should be at the age of 50 years or under, and work full time at ZJU.

Remuneration:

(1) ZJU will provide decent compensation, a package of allowances, social insurance and other welfares.

(2) Those qualified may apply for purchasing one of the apartments reserved for high-end talents or a certain amount of housing subsidy will be provided by ZJU.

12.2 Associate Professor

Responsibilities:

(1) He /She who holds this position should undertake a high-quality task of teaching.

(2) The applicant should engage in high-level research and establish a new research orientation, conduct original researches on significant theoretical and practical issues, and tackle problems in key research areas, so that to increase the international influence of his/her own and become an active and influential scholar in related field.

(3) The applicant should participate in discipline planning and developing, and make remarkable achievements in certain academic area.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should hold a doctor's degree in world renowned universities, and have had postdoctoral or other research experience. He /She should make good research achievements, have prominent academic potential and good at cooperation, He/ She should be a young scholar and develop a research orientation independently.

(2) The applicant should be at the age of 40 years or under, and work full time at ZJU.

Remuneration:

(1) ZJU will provide decent compensation, a package of allowances, social insurance and other welfares.

(2) Those qualified may apply for purchasing one of the apartments reserved for high-end talents or a certain amount of housing subsidy will be provided by ZJU.

12.3 Lecturer

Responsibilities:

(1) He /She should apply for and take charge of national and provincial scientific projects, participate in key projects, and publish research articles on domestic and international core journals.

(2) He /She should undertake a certain amount of teaching and student management work.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should hold a doctor's degree in world renowned universities, and in principle, have had postdoctoral or other research experience. He /She should have strong scientific research abilities, prominent academic potential and good at cooperation.

(2) The applicant should be 35 years of age or under, and work full time at ZJU.

Remuneration:

(1) ZJU will provide decent compensation, a package of allowances, social insurance and other welfares.

(2) A certain amount of housing subsidy will be allocated by ZJU.

(3) The college (department) will provide research fund.

 

12.4 Post-Doctoral Research Fellow

Responsibilities:

(1) He /She who holds this position will mainly engage in scientific research, and is expected to complete the research tasks as proposed.

(2) He /She will need to apply for China Postdoctoral Science Funding or other funding according to innovative research needs, and publish research articles in domestic and international advanced journals.

Qualifications and Requirements:

(1) The applicant should hold a doctor's degree, and acquire strong research abilities.

(2) The applicant should be under 35 years of age or under and work full-time at ZJU.

Remuneration:

(1) ZJU will provide decent compensation, a package of allowances, social insurance and other welfares.

Non-Full-time Positions

In order to strengthen international communication and cooperation, Zhejiang University also welcome scholars that are well-known at home or abroad to work in short-term, thus to guide and promote talent training, scientific research and discipline construction of ZJU. The applicant should lead a key field of sciences, technology, industry or academic discipline inching. He /She should be a world first-class scholar holding a doctoral degree granted overseas. He /She should be 55 years of age or under and will work at ZJU for more than 2 months annually for no less than 3 years in term. ZJU will provide allowances according to the actual time He /She works at ZJU and allocate relevant research funds.

 

2. Short-term Recruitment Program of Foreign Experts

The applicant should be a non-Chinese expert and be 65 years of age or under in accordance with the requirements of “Foreign Experts Recruitment Program”. He /She should hold full professorship or an equivalent title in a prestigious foreign higher education or research institution, or a world-renowned enterprise or financial institution. He /She should work at ZJU for more than 2 months annually for no less than 3 years in a term. ZJU will provide allowances according to the actual time He /She works at ZJU and allocate relevant research funds.

 

3. High-end Foreign Experts Recruitment Program

The applicant should be a non-Chinese expert who leads a key field of sciences, technology, industry or academic discipline in China. He /She should be 65 years of age or under and will work at ZJU for more than 2 months annually during the employment term (for a period from 1 to 3 years). ZJU will provide allowances according to the actual time He /She works at ZJU and allocate relevant research funds.

 

4. Zhejiang Provincial Program for High-Level Overseas Talents (Short-Term Innovative Talent, also known as the "Seagull Program")

The applicant should be an overseas high-level innovative talent employed by a higher education institution, research institution or enterprise in Zhejiang Province, or lead a key field of sciences, technology, industry, or academic discipline of our province. He /She should hold a doctoral degree granted overseas and be 55 years of age or under and will work at ZJU for more than 2 months annually for no less than 3 years in a term. ZJU will provide allowances according to the actual time He /She works at ZJU and allocate relevant research funds.

 

5. Zhejiang University Chair Professors

Zhejiang University Chair Professors include Zhejiang University “Qiushi” Chair Professor and Zhejiang University Chair Professors funded by Various Foundations. The applicant should be a world-renowned scholar at home or abroad and be 70 years of age or under. If accepted, He /She should work at ZJU for at least 2-3 months annually with a term of 3 years. Allowances will be provided according to the actual time He /She works at ZJU and ZJU will allocate relevant research funds.
